Committed to Bringing You Quality

My name is Hugh Brown. In 1996 a farmer out in western Minnesota paid my father Charlie for some corn with four pregnant cows. A year later a farmer we knew wanted to get out of cattle so we added ten more Angus cattle to our then burgeoning herd. We left the initial herd out to pasture at our farm adjacent to our family's 1853 homestead. In 1998, concerned with the increasing rate of hormones and antibiotics use in our food supply, my father started Gourmaze Inc, committed to providing meat we knew we could trust. Ahead of the curve, he dedicated the meat what we produced to using no antibiotics or hormones on our animals. Since then, our herd has grown and shrunk from a high of about 150 animals down to its current 70.

For the past 16 years he has been quietly lockering our animals and offering the meat to family, friends and coworkers in and around Red Wing. In 2014 he brought me on to help expand the business. I am a 27-year old who grew up working out in the corn fields. In college at the College of Wooster in Ohio I became interested in sustainability and food systems. Now, being able to work with our family and to have a direct and positive effect on the way people bring food to their tables exactly what I want to do.
